Perez conquers the 550 Challenge de la Mallorca
The first edition of the 550 Challenge of Mallorca, based in Port Adriano, ends after three exciting days and 18 demanding stages, with a great taste in the mouth and the fulfilled objective of making a high competition event capable of attracting great international drivers and be the reference competition in the world of motoring in the autumn.
As has happened in previous days, the British driver Seb Perez and his co-driver Gary McElhinney have come out very focused and with a clear objective: to take the victory in each of the eight stages of the day, and so it has been. The driver of the M-Sport World Rally Team of the World Rally Championship WRC has been unbeatable throughout the competition, winning all 18 stages of the race at the controls of his 2021 Ford Fiesta Rally2, proclaiming himself absolute champion of the first edition of the 550 Challenge de Mallorca at the end of the day.
In the Regularity category, the Mallorcan team formed by Tommy Castañer and Toni Durán, who have shown a great control of their 1970 Frua Porsche 911 2.4 S Targa, have taken the victory in the 'Medium High' class after giving up only a couple of sections during the entire test and not abandoning at any time the leadership of the classification. The victory in the 'Medium Low' class went to Pitt / Nutter, the British team that won two of the eight stages of the day, and managed to manage the advantage gained in the previous days with their 1997 Rover MGF MGF against the continuous attack of the also British teams, Owles / Ross and Woolger / Mauran, who have fought for victory until the finish line with their vehicles, 1973 Triumph TR6 and 1957 MG MGA Roadster, respectively.
After the trophy ceremony held in Port Adriano, Toni Dezcallar, director of the 550 Challenge de Mallorca, thanked all the drivers for their participation and confidence in this event, which has been designed with great care and effort to become an international benchmark in the world of motor racing. He also acknowledged that without the support of the sponsors and the whole team, it would have been impossible to make such a high quality event.
Without wanting to advance anything, Dezcallar confirmed that he is already working and thinking about next year, the second edition of the competition promises to surprise all participants and fans.
