Genesca leads the 550 Challenge de Mallorca

The demanding night sections of the first day of the second edition of the 550 Challenge of Mallorca, have been joined by inclement weather in the form of clouds and rain. The water, which has been present on the island throughout the day, has finally disappeared during the competition, but has left the asphalt wet, which demanded more to the teams that have taken the exit from Port Adriano, headquarters and closed park of the competition.

Excitement and competitiveness is what they have felt after the starting gun all the fans and motor enthusiasts who have followed the race from Port Adriano or the sections, and have been able to enjoy the struggle for victory of the two night sections with which the rally started.

Teams of eight different nationalities, from different countries besides Spain, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Holland, Italy and Switzerland, have started off with the sole objective of competing for the leadership of the event from the first of the two stages of the opening day of the 550 Challenge.

Until Saturday, October 8, all the drivers will cover more than 550 timed kilometers in 16 demanding stages that will demand the maximum from each team at the wheel in order to gain as much time as possible on the clock.

The first day, which has started with the "Estellencs - Andratx" and "Andratx - Capdellá" sections, has been led by the French team Genesca/Gehant, who have maintained their leadership throughout the first day at the controls of their 2018 Skoda Fabia. After taking victory in the two stages contested in the first stage with which the rally has started today, Thursday, and with a lead of forty seconds over the second-placed team Campaner/Rotger with their Skoda Fabia N5, the French driver aims to win the second edition of the 550 Challenge, although there are still two full days and 14 stages to contest. His main rivals and those who complete the temporary podium are the Balearic teams Campaner/Rotger and Galiana/Flores with their Ford Sierra RS Cosworth.

In the Regularity category, the Majorcan team formed by Pedro Valls and Juana Font lead the category after demonstrating a mastery at the wheel of their Porsche Carrera 911 in the two night sections of the day.

Tomorrow, the drivers will face six new sections in which to measure their skills and abilities at the wheel, on spectacular roads such as "Pollença-Lluc", "Campanet - Pollença - Lluc", or "Gorg Blau - Mirador Ses Barques".
