1958 MG A 1600 wins the Richard Mauran Award
The winner of the first 'Richard Mauran' prize in the 550 Challenge de Mallorca was the team of Sean SonHing and William Buffey, who contested the rally in their 1958 MG A 1600.
The MG A is a sports car produced between 1955-1962, which replaced the MG T-type. It was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and a total of 101,081 units were sold during its production run.
The MG A, like its predecessors, has a front mid-engine configuration, i.e. the engine is located behind the front axle, giving it an optimum weight distribution of almost 50/50.
The MG A 1600 is equipped with a tuned BMC B-series engine, including twin carburettors, with double overhead camshafts (DOHC), OHV inline 4-cylinder, 1588 cubic centimetres and an output of 80CV.
